Problem
Despite having been living in an English-speaking country for a long time, we may not be able to understand fully English movies and Serials, or we still rely much on "subtitles" to follow and understand different frames of the movies or Serials. One reason for this, as research suggests, could be poor knowledge of (L2 words) English words including idiomatic expressions and proverbs usually used in these contexts.
One way to deal with this problem
-Install 3seconds Application (3seconds App) to enrich your knowledge of high frequently used words, idiomatic expressions and proverbs in English movies and Serials along with their related short movies, as real-life contexts use. 3seconds app works both online and offline. As idiomatic expressions and proverbs could be complicated and sometimes difficult to identify and understand, Persian equivalents have been given for each of them to facilitate users' comprehension.
3seconds application
3seconds Application provides an opportunity to learn frequently used idiomatic expressions and proverbs used in English movies and Serials. It provides a real-life context for the use of each idiomatic expression or proverb. Around 450 real-life contexts have been used for the use of 500 frequently used idiomatic expressions and proverbs. These real-life contexts have been extracted from more than 150 English movies and Serials. Persian equivalent for each idiom or proverb has been given in the App. This is for the first time the Persian equivalents for some of the idioms and proverbs used in English movies and Serials have been provided and formally published. This, as a challenging and cognitively demanding task, was developed by an expert team in teaching English and Translation Studies supervised by Dr. Mohammadtaghi Shahnazari, Assistant Professor, at the University of Isfahan.
